Genetic Basis of Inflammatory Demyelinating Diseases of the Central Nervous System: Multiple Sclerosis and Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum

چکیده
Demyelinating diseases alter myelin or the coating surrounding most nerve fibers in central and peripheral nervous systems. The grouping of human system demyelinating disorders today includes multiple sclerosis (MS) neuromyelitis optica spectrum (NMOSD) as distinct disease categories. Each is caused by a complex combination genetic environmental variables, many involving an autoimmune response. Even though these conditions are fundamentally similar, research into factors, their unique clinical manifestations, lesion pathology has helped with differential diagnosis pathogenesis knowledge. This review aims to synthesize approaches that explain susceptibility between diseases, explore overlapping features, pathological findings, discuss existing emerging hypotheses on etiology demyelination, assess recent pathogenicity studies implications for demyelination. presents critical information from previous disease, which asks several questions understand gaps this field.

Significant advances have been made in diagnosis and therapy of demyelinating disorders of the central nervous system. The most common entities of this disorders in adults – multiple sclerosis and neuromyelitis optica were initially thought to be different phenotypes of more or less the same disease. During the last ten years, this view was subsequently changed and the term neuromyelitis ...

متن کاملNeuromyelitis optica and neuromyelitis optica-IgG seropositivity in Saudis with demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system
Background and Objective: Neuromyelitis optica (NMO) shares certain features with multiple sclerosis (MS). Similar phenotypes, wide spectrum and the differential prevalence of NMO among ethnic backgrounds pose diagnostic challenges. NMO-IgG antibodies are specific biomarker for NMO and facilitate its differentiation from other demyelinating diseases. This study aimed to assess the frequency of ...
متن کاملComparison of Bladder Dysfunction and Urinary Symptoms Between Multiple Sclerosis and Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder
Background: Neuromyelitis optica (NMO) and multiple sclerosis (MS) are auto immune demyelinating disorders. Both MS and NMO patients suffer from urinary dysfunction. Objectives: Investigation of frequency and severity of urinary symptoms in two groups of MS and NMO patients. Materials & Methods: 56 MS patients and 20 NMO patients were enrolled in this cross sectional study conducted in Isfah...
